Alphabet Category Blitz
Kids race to name a word in a category for as many letters of the alphabet as they can before time runs out.

What you need
- None (or paper and pencils for a written version)
Setup
Pick a category the whole class can access — animals, foods, colors, things at school.
How to run it
- Announce the category (e.g. "animals") and set a 2-minute timer.
- Going around the room in order, each student names an animal starting with the next letter of the alphabet (A, then B, then C…).
- If a student gets stuck, the class can help with a hint, or simply skip that letter and move on.
- See how far through the alphabet the class gets before time runs out, and try to beat that record with a new category next time.
Variations
- Run it as small-group races instead of one big class circle for more turns per student.
- Make it a written relay: pass a paper down the row, each student adds one word for the next letter.
