What you need
- A cloth bag or pillowcase, a handful of safe everyday objects (a sponge, a spoon, a pinecone, a small toy)
Setup
Place one object in the bag without letting the class see it.
How to run it
- One student reaches into the bag (without looking) and describes what they feel — shape, texture, weight, temperature — out loud to the class.
- The class asks follow-up questions ("is it hard or soft?", "bigger than your hand?") before anyone guesses.
- Once a few guesses are made, reveal the object and talk about which clues were most helpful.
- Swap in a new object and a new student for the next round.
Variations
- Tie objects to a current science unit (rocks and minerals, classroom materials, plant parts).
- For older kids, add a rule that they can’t name the object directly — only describe it — until the class guesses.
