What you need
- Sentence strips cut into individual word cards, one full set per team (templates in the printable kit)
Setup
Prepare a few grammatically-correct sentences ahead of time (5–9 words each), cut into individual word cards, one scrambled set per team.
How to run it
- Give each team a scrambled envelope of word cards for the same sentence (or different sentences of equal difficulty).
- On "go," teams race to arrange their cards on the floor or a table into a grammatically correct sentence.
- First team with a correct sentence calls "done" — verify it together as a class, checking capitalization and punctuation cards too if you included them.
- Reset with new sentences for another round, mixing in a purposely tricky one (multiple valid word orders) to spark discussion.
Variations
- Use sentences pulled from a book the class is reading for a reading-comprehension tie-in.
- Include punctuation and capital-letter cards as separate pieces to also reinforce mechanics, not just word order.
