What you need
- Animal cards and habitat cards (in the printable kit) or hand-written ones for your current unit
Setup
Prepare a set of animal cards (with a short trait list on each) and a set of habitat cards (desert, arctic, rainforest, ocean, grassland).
How to run it
- Split into small teams and give each team a mixed set of animal and habitat cards.
- Teams match each animal to the habitat where it would most likely survive, based on the traits listed on the card.
- Each team picks one match to defend to the class, explaining which trait made the difference.
- As a class, discuss any animals that could plausibly survive in more than one habitat, and why.
Variations
- Add a "why not" round: pick an animal-habitat mismatch and have the team explain specifically why it wouldn’t survive there.
- Use plant cards instead of animal cards for a botany-focused version.
